2021 and Beyond
The holidays in 2020 were weird and different. Zoom calls replaced Christmas celebrations, and I celebrated New Years with Greg and Lawrence. Instead of doing things and celebrating, I had a lot of time to chill and not really do anything. I struggled because I’m a natural doer, but challenged myself to do fun randomContinue reading “2021 and Beyond”
March 2020 and COVID
One of the wildest months of the decade. I’d just started volunteering online as a crisis text line volunteer and was getting used to the intensity of it. Things had also gotten a bit better at work, as I was getting more patient interaction, and we were going to be starting recruitment soon. In mid-March,Continue reading “March 2020 and COVID”
Starting my First Full-Time Job
Upon starting my first job in Toronto, I realized how lucky I was to have a paid position in my field. There aren’t many paid research positions, especially in mental health. The first week of work I commuted from Burlington, but was able to move in with my aunt after that. I know the firstContinue reading “Starting my First Full-Time Job”
The Summer After Fourth Year
I struggled with what to do during the summer after fourth year. I considered doing a free program in Quebec where I could learn French, and applied to work at Starbucks. Ultimately, I decided to study for the MCAT and volunteer. Seeing fellow students getting into grad programs and professional schools made me feel prettyContinue reading “The Summer After Fourth Year”
Final Semester of Undergrad
My last semester was more stressful, as I had to finish my thesis and my thesis poster. I’m not a huge fan of academic writing and it was a lot of academic writing. As per usual, I was scared of not doing well in school. The pharmacology course I took was very hard and stressedContinue reading “Final Semester of Undergrad”
Winter Break before my Final Semester
As a final year trip, I organized a trip to Mont Tremblant with my friends. Brianne came, two of my roommates came, along with four friends from home. We had an awesome trip skiing a ton and partying a ton. The conditions were great, and it was the best New Years I’d ever had.
Part One Fourth Year
I finished working at CAMH, and went to Hamilton to start being a rep for Welcome Week. I felt so much better when I was doing this. I enjoyed helping the first years and felt supported and included. It boosted my mood so much, and I was grateful to be a Science rep for theContinue reading “Part One Fourth Year”
Summer Before 4th Year
Once school was over, my mood was still low. Part of me hoped I might be able to get back with Henry, but that wasn’t going to happen. I was going to be going on a trip to Europe with my family before starting my job at CAMH. We were going to visit Amsterdam, ZurichContinue reading “Summer Before 4th Year”
Second Semester Third Year
Though I was feeling better, second semester was also a battle. I had to pick a thesis supervisor, and again worried about doing well in my courses. I was also hoping to get a research job in mental health in the summer, a very difficult task. My weight was higher than it had ever been,Continue reading “Second Semester Third Year”
